BDSM

BDSM is an acronym: Bondage, Domination, Submission, Sado-Masochism.

BDSM, also sometimes called Erotic Power Exchange, means different things to different people. It can mean enjoying hurting or being hurt, or tying up or being tied, or giving or taking orders. What it definitely doesn't mean is forcing anyone to do or have done to them anything they don't want. BDSM is consensual power exchange, whereby one the submissive person surrenders power to his or her dominant partner.

Bondage & Domination indicates an enjoyment for rendering someone helpless and controlled by material restraints like ropes, chains and restrictive clothing.

Dominance & Submission indicates that the emphasis is on the giving and taking of orders, of a dominant ("dom") being in command and a submissive ("sub") willingly obeying. May include inflicting pain as a sign of who has the power to do it and who can only take it.

Sado-Masochism, as in the medical definition, denotes the enjoyment of inflicting or receiving pain. May include mental cruelties such as humiliation and verbal abuse.
